Dang Arcade 1UP! Back At It Again with the new Arcade Cabinets!

The crew over at Arcade1UP have been releasing replica arcade cabinets for retail for the past year-or-so with licenses from the makers of Pac-Man, Defender, and Street Fighter, to name a few. The arcade cabinets are less-expensive — starting at $199 — and smaller in scale compared to their original releases — allowing for play while sitting down, or standing with the optional 1 foot … Continue reading Dang Arcade 1UP! Milla Jovovich to Star in Live-Action ‘Monster Hunter’ Movie; is THIS why we can’t have nice things…

For the last two years or so (so, since around 2016), director, Paul W. S. Anderson — who’s directed two of my favorite films: Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon) has been working on a Monster Hunter movie. While I can now actually audibly hear you roll your eyes to the back of your head over the scoffing, we now also know that the film has a star, Anderson’s wife and actress Milla Jovovich. For your own safety I heavily recommend that you stop rolling your eyes further back; just looking out for you. Anyway, Variety reports that Anderson recently delivered the latest draft of the film’s script, and the Monster Hunter film adaptation will begin shooting this September in South Africa. It has also been reported that special effects studio Mr. X will be involved, having worked with Anderson on the special effects for the Resident Evil movies. Play This Atari 2600-style ‘Mortal Kombat’ homebrew game RIGHT NOW!!

Let’s say, theoretically, if Mortal Kombat went back in time to the days of River Raid, Adventure and Pitfall, then the result of this DeLorean-esque trip would probably look something like THIS, right? Also yes, that IS Scorpion up there; I’m at least 95% sure should I squint hard enough see how the yellow-and-black bits.  Anyway, this is old-school Atari 2600-style blocky graphics attempting to evoke the stype of the gory fighting game franchise in Mortal Kombat: Netherrealm Journey, which has been floating around the good ol’ interwebz for a while now, however I’ve just stumbled on it a couple of days ago while surfing the Information Superhighway and winding up at the Library of Atari YouTube channel. Ever Thought: ‘How Talented are the Mortal Kombat doctors…’?

I’ve been playing the Mortal Kombat games for well over 20 years now, and among all the times I’ve caused my opponents to spill gallons of blood, ripped out a fighter’s head and spine as Sub-Zero (my favorite character, or “Kombatant”), or set my adversary ablaze as Scorpion, they just keep on coming back for another round for kombat (intention misspell because “combat” is lame; “KOMBAT” is where it’s at). Also fascinated on this aspect of the fighting game series, the guys over at The Warp Zone produced a video to provide us with a look at the men behind the fighters’ de-mutilation for future and upcoming bouts. Get Lifted: The Barrakka Lift Project in Malta

This lift goes up SO HIGH; SO HIGH it’s gonna touch the sky…well, not really, but the story behind the Barrakka Lift Project (no, NOT this guy) is very interesting, though.  Commissioned by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation PLC and designed by Architecture Project, the 20-story-high panoramic Barrakka Lift Project is located along the edge of Malta’s historic fortified capital city of Valletta. Once fortified with walls from the 1700’s to deter enemy ships — with those same walls now being conserved to provide access to residents and tourists — this new lift tower will help enhance the large number of pedestrian traffic from the water’s edge along the Valletta waterfront, over the fortified walls, into the city and Grand Harbor, and linking the  Upper Barrakka Gardens and the new City Gate.
