From Old Hard Drive to…Cotton Candy Maker?!?

In a world where cloud storage is becoming a viable primary storage option, hard disk drives coming with bigger storage and lower prices (yay upgrades), and with the prices of solid state drive (probably) falling in the next few years, you are probably like me and you’ve got a collection of at least one old hard drives just laying doing nothing. You could just throw them away (no; don’t do that), re-purpose them as external backup drives (my favorite option), or let them collect dust.  However, if you ever wanted to live your childhood dream of owning a candy shoppe (yeah, I spelled it like that) you could just turn your old hard drive into a cotton candy machine. YAY CANDY!   Continue reading “From Old Hard Drive to…Cotton Candy Maker?!?”

If you do, have you been trying to find a way to make good use of that floppy drive that died long ago (and I actually mean FLOPPY, not those 3.5” so-called “floppy” disks)? Well then, you can take that useless (formerly useless now) external “floppy” drive from Apple (or Commodore 64’s ACTUAL floppy drive, or whatever) and exchange its innards with that of an external HDD to give your modern storage solution a vintage and retro look!   Continue reading “Turn Old-School Apple Floppy Drive into an External HDD Enclosure”

Turn Your USB HDD’s into a NAS with LaCie’s LaPlug…FOR $75 BUCKS!!

There’s this company that I have never heard before of until today called LaCie, and apparently they have a history of creating and releasing network storage devices that are visually restrained in design in their presentation (by the way, that’s fancy talk for saying that most of their devices look like boxes).  There’s the LaCie “CloudBox” that works as a hybrid 100 GB HDD that backs up your data locally AND in the cloud simultaneously, and the LaCie “Wireless Space” (it’s kind of like Apple’s “Time Capsule”) that works as a network-attached storage (NAS) local backup drive AND and wireless (WLAN) router.
