Recently, Shawn Michaels was a guest on Jim Ross’ podcast, The Ross Report, and at around the forty-minute mark he revealed in the interview that the decision to end The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak — which I may of may not have ranted and resolved already… — was made roughly four hours before last month’s WrestleMania 30 program went to air. Michaels stated that at the end of the day, the final and absolute decision came down to WWE owner and chairman, Vince McMahon. Ross himself stated that he “wouldn’t be surprised if the decision for The Streak to end did not happen at the eleventh hour. Or the weekend of,” with Michaels confirming that is was “four hours” before that show began.

The main event at WWF WrestleMania XII was built on two goal from two different wrestlers: Bret Hart, the then-WWF Champion, aimed at wanting to retain the WWF Championship, and the challenger Shawn Michaels, who had suffered a number of setbacks over the course of the previous year (losing a title match at WrestleMania XI, forfeiting the Intercontinental Championship, suffering a concussion, and getting betrayed by Diesel, a.k.a. Kevin Nash). To add to the build up of this event, the match between Hart and Michaels would be the first-televised, sixty-minute Iron Man Match, in which whomever scored the most decisions in a one-hour period (pinfall, submission, countout or disqualification) would win the match, and the WWF Championship.
It’s become clear that I’m a fan of pro wrestling (really, just check the header and click the “Pro Wrestling” link), and being from San Antonio, Shawn Michaels is – and will always be – the poo, the top dog, the Showstopper, The Main Event…..ok, calming down now. A few weeks ago, the world of Twitter took to the interwebs to post some interesting, funny … Continue reading Awesome Shawn Michaels Facts
For some background, “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels was in is first reign as WWF Champion after winning the title in a fantastic Iron Man Match at WrestleMania XII from Bret Hart (which I will DEFINITELY discuss at a later point and time). The night after WrestleMania XII, Mankind (Mick Foley) debuted in the WWF, and after feuding with The Undertaker and eventually winning the managerial services of Paul Bearer (Undertaker’s manager), he would win the number one contendership for the WWF Championship at the Mind Games pay-per-view event.
