Ingenious Mobile ‘Airbag’ Phone Case Springs Out Legs to Save Your Phone When You Drop It; Because You WILL Drop It…

Whenever someone tells me that they’ve never dropped their smartphone, I just react in a similar fashion as if they told me that they don’t think their computer’s hard drive will die. You silly rabbit; it’s going to happen. I WILL happen. Sooner or later, it’s going to happen. This is why you should AT LEAST get a phone case (or even better, a “rugged” one) and a glass protective screen to take the shock damage from the phone after a drop. But after one drop too many, you;ll likely be left with a broken phone and an expensive repair bill (unless you have insurance). While Sony and Amazon (and other similar tech companies) have filed patents for car airbag-inspired phone case systems, an engineering student from Germany’s Aalen University created a phone protector that LITERALLY springs into action just before the handset hits the ground. These Tiny Robotic Scallops swim through Blood and Eyeball Fluid to Repair You

Apparently for many years now, scientists have been trying to create microscopic robots that will swim through our bodily fluids and repair damaged cells and/or deliver medicine. A group of scientists from Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems think they’ve FINALLY got it down with a design form of scallops that are so small that they can barely be seen by the human eye. These itsy-bitsy, tiny-winy micro-robo-scallops maneuver back and forth in order to swim through blood, eyeball fluids and other bodily liquids. The team of scientists believe that by mimicking the way an actual scallop swims would be an ideal method of movement, mainly due to several reasons. Still Kicking: Five of the Oldest Man-Made Structures Still Being Used

When it comes to making a pointless argument about which of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is the best, it’s really NO CONTEST; the Great Pyramids of Giza are the only ones left standing, so it wins…..I guess. . However, there are plenty of other ancient structures that were not included in that “Wonders of the World” list as well, and many of them have been around for at least over 1,000 years.  Plus, these five buildings are still being used. Here are five of the many still-standing ancient structures that are great and amazing feats in human engineering! Deutsche Bahn Rail Network to Fight Vandalism with Drones

Oh the drone; from national defense overseas, to personal photography and to aerial artwork, they are finding new applications for use every day. The usage of drones has caught the attention of  Germany’s national rail network, and they wish to utilize them as a way to defend their trains from the evil known as vandalism.  When you think about it, after YOUR trains have been defaced approximately 14,000 times in 2012 ALONE (as Deutsche Bahn’s trains were) and you had to spend $9.8 million for clean-up, you’d start thinking about using flying robots to bust those vandals, too.   Continue reading “Deutsche Bahn Rail Network to Fight Vandalism with Drones”

Want a Apartment Where You Can GROW Your Own A/C?

If so, then BOY; DO I HAVE A STORY FOR YOU!! This is the Bio Intelligent Quotient (BIQ) House, a recently completed 15-unit apartment building in Hamburg, Germany, and what is its main feature?  Well, it has to be that the East and West facades are covered in 129 sun-tracking algae tanks installed on an automated external scaffolding structure, which are fed through an integrated tubing system within the building — which also pumps in the necessary CO2.  The project cost about €5 million and was designed by Splitterwerk Architects with funding by the Internationale Bauausstellung (IBA), which is a long-running architectural concept techniques exhibition.   Continue reading “Want a Apartment Where You Can GROW Your Own A/C?”
