Yes, you read that right… In this game, you meet a girl, fall in love, have your soul stolen, fight Hitler and get strung up by the KKK. Maybe this is why Nintendo barely promoted the game, gave it a very generic cover and never re-released it. For the sake of comparison, Nintendo re-releases PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING; if you don’t believe me, ask yourself how many times you’ve re-purchased Super Mario Bros. and/or The Legend of Zelda. Apparently the theme this week is ‘because why not,” sooooo….
Anyway, Mother (known as EarthBound Zero to us North Americans) had a very interesting official soundtrack had never been released outside of Japan….UNTIL NOW….in some capacity. Instead of just taking music straight from the game, composers Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka (of Metroid & Kid Icarus) and Keiichi Suzuki (of Tokyo Godfathers) created a fully orchestrated soundtrack, along with the inclusion of English vocals from European musicians including Catherine Warwick, Louis Philippe, Jeb Million, and the Saint Paul’s Cathedral Choir. Much like the game series itself, the album is pretty bizarre and weird, but that’s the charm of the Mother series and that’s what makes it special. He said that his first Nintendo items were pencil erasers, and since then, Yamazaki has been amassing quite possibly one of the most amazing Nintendo collections you’ll in the ENTIRE WORLD (check it out after the break)!!! If was possible for the fallen angel Satan (a.k.a. Lucifer) to have designed the most frustrating, challenging, and impossible video game of all time, I’m fairly certain it would be Takeshi’s Challenge. Originally released on the Nintendo Family Computer (or Famicom, the Japanese variant of the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES) in Japan on December 10th, 1986, and became renowned for it’s unrelenting difficulty.
