Behold, the First Photo and Video of an ACTUAL Black Hole… [Update: Thank you MIT Grad Student Katie Bouman!]

Ladies, Gentlemen, and everyone in-between; we have witnessed a major milestone in astronomy. After many, many years of depending on computer-generated images based on the what the theory of general relativity has predicted for decades, we finally have an actual image of a black hole in space. I know, I know; IT’S FINALLY HAPPENED!!! A collaboration of scientists worldwide used the Event Horizon (heh-heh) Telescope to find this gigantic — that’s putting it lightly — black hole located in the Messier 87 galaxy that measures up to 6.5 million times the mass of the Sun.  The image shows a sort-of-shadow made by the event horizon bending and sucking in light. Milla Jovovich to Star in Live-Action ‘Monster Hunter’ Movie; is THIS why we can’t have nice things…

For the last two years or so (so, since around 2016), director, Paul W. S. Anderson — who’s directed two of my favorite films: Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon) has been working on a Monster Hunter movie. While I can now actually audibly hear you roll your eyes to the back of your head over the scoffing, we now also know that the film has a star, Anderson’s wife and actress Milla Jovovich. For your own safety I heavily recommend that you stop rolling your eyes further back; just looking out for you. Anyway, Variety reports that Anderson recently delivered the latest draft of the film’s script, and the Monster Hunter film adaptation will begin shooting this September in South Africa. It has also been reported that special effects studio Mr. X will be involved, having worked with Anderson on the special effects for the Resident Evil movies.
