Ladies, Gentlemen, and everyone in-between; we have witnessed a major milestone in astronomy. After many, many years of depending on computer-generated images based on the what the theory of general relativity has predicted for decades, we finally have an actual image of a black hole in space. I know, I know; IT’S FINALLY HAPPENED!!! A collaboration of scientists worldwide used the Event Horizon (heh-heh) Telescope to find this gigantic — that’s putting it lightly — black hole located in the Messier 87 galaxy that measures up to 6.5 million times the mass of the Sun. The image shows a sort-of-shadow made by the event horizon bending and sucking in light. Man, quit being such a chatterbox. SHUT UP!!! I believe that it has become common knowledge that piranhas (a.k.a, the Hannibal Lecter of fish) are nasty and vicious little creatures, but a group of scientists have published in the Journal of Experimental Biology that piranhas (in particular the “red-bellied” type) are able to talk and communicate with each other. As a matter of fact, they use … Continue reading It Turns Out That Piranhas Are Pretty Chatty Creatures…
And it’s proven and discovered…BY SCIENCE!!!
The above picture is the fungus called Spongiforma squarepantsii. Yeah, no fooling; that’s the actual scientific name. This fungus was discovered in the rain-forests of Borneo last year by a group of researchers who, after noticing its behavior similar to a sponge, named it after the famous Nickelodeon cartoon character. So, he doesn’t quite “live in a pineapple, under the sea,” but more-or-less “in the rain-forest, under a tree.”
