‘Shenmue’ Development Bugs: Cats Walking like People and Empty Streets

Dreamcast fans REJOICE (I’m looking at you, PC)!! For those who remember, Shenmue was an extremely ambitious game for its time (and I’m talking about late-1990’s-time), which included a massive and interactive open world, environments full of people and dynamic activity and a fairly-complex combat system, along with using state-of-the-art graphics. The project was huge in scope, and the game’s director, Yu Suzuki, revealed at the “Shenmue Postmortem Panel” at this year’s Game Developers’ Conference (GDC) that the game’s development didn’t come without its fair share of bizarre development bugs. In fact, according to Suzuki, up to 300 bugs were found EVERY DAY!

When Does A Game Get Cancelled AFTER Release?

Being a gamer and following gaming news from magazines and websites, it’s fairly common to hear news about games getting cancelled early in production and games getting cancelled in development; it’s just a thing that happens a lot. However, I can’t remember for the LIFE OF ME the last time I heard about a game getting cancelled after it was released, AFTER people had already paid money to own it. WEIRD! Well, that’s the case for Ashes Cricket 2013 from developer Trickstar (irony?) and publisher 505 Games. Apparently, the game was so bad, glitchy, buggy and broken that it was “cancelled” by 505 Games and removed for sale from Steam. WOW! Continue reading “When Does A Game Get Cancelled AFTER Release?”
