Star Wars + Sgt. Pepper’s LHCB = The “Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans” Album

The music group Palette-Swap Ninja (consisting of Jude Kelley and Dan Amrich) have finally releases a project that took five long years to complete.  Their new album, a concept album titled Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans, is available, and IT’S FREE!  And yes, this album combines the lore of Star Wars — particularly Episode IV: A New Hope, IN ORDER — and The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and there’s good reason for that.  This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars on May 25, and June 1st will be the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Continue reading “Star Wars + Sgt. Pepper’s LHCB = The “Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans” Album”

Astell & Kern’s $999 ‘heavyweight portable media player’ Kann; no, that’s NOT a typo…

Astell & Kern’s newest portable music player (or PMP with no “I”; sorry 50) — the $999 Kann — is out now, and for a portable media player, it has some pretty impressive modern-day inclusions.  This fact is interesting since most high-end portable music players are slow to included extra bells-and-whistles, if at all.  Not only is the Kann huge — it’s just over an inch thick (25.6mm) and weighs over half a pound (278.7g) — it includes a massive 6000mAh battery (for a supposed battery life of 14 hours), an integrated powered headphone amp, and both micro SD and full-size SD card slots. Keep in mind, this thing IS ONE-THOUSAND DOLLARS. Continue reading “Astell & Kern’s $999 ‘heavyweight portable media player’ Kann; no, that’s NOT a typo…”

Sony has released a PlayStation VR Music Video that you can walk around in…

I have been a proud owner of the PlayStation VR hardware since its launch last year, and for the past several months I’ve enjoyed playing VR-based games and demos, while also having a fun time playing non-VR games in theater mode.  VR, in general, is successful when the visuals and audio become optimally immersive, but most of the focus had been on visuals.  To show how capable PSVR can be by having the audio and other sounds adapt to your movement in the virtual space, Sony brought in violinist Joshua Bell to record a 360-degree virtual reality studio session at Air Studios’ Lyndhurst Hall in London. This project, which features adaptive audio and positional tracking, allows the subject wearing the PSVR helmet to semi-realistically “step inside” the recording studio.

Here’s A Spotify Playlist of Songs Full of Architectural Shout-Outs!

It doesn’t take too much time to consider that the artistic value, inspiration, and composition of architecture and music can often intersect one another; you also don’t need to have an awesome friend like Dr. Faye A Hays to tell you that, but it helps. ArchDaily’s sister site ArchDaily Brasil partnered up with Spotify to create a music playlist featuring songs with many references to architecture and … Continue reading Here’s A Spotify Playlist of Songs Full of Architectural Shout-Outs!

After Larry Fitzgerald scored a touchdown in the Cardinals’ home opener for the season, the stadium speakers played her awesome theme music. Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooooooohhhhhhh…

Watch and Listen to The Star Wars Theme Being Played on Floppy Drives…

Five years ago in 2011, Paweł Zadrożniak, a university student in Poland, hooked up two floppy disk drives and began making music. Now, he’s assembled a full symphony, which he calls the “Floppotron,” a large assembly that includes 64 floppy drives and eight 8-channel controllers with envelope stimulation.  The device was shown in a video on his posted to his blog. showing off the improvement made from the original two-drive setup over the course of five years. Rocky Romero of NJPW Just Dropped An Album. Say What?!?

RockyR

Are you familiar with New Japan Pro Wrestling, then you’re PROBABLY also familiar with Rocky Romero. If not, you should know that he’s a longtime tag team specialist and sometimes dons the mask of Black Tiger, a legacy gimmick once held by the legendary Eddie Guerrero. He also has something in common with WWE stars John Cena, Shawn Michaels, and Tyler Breeze: he performs his own theme song, “RPG Vice Theme,” where he’s the vocalist AND producer. However, the story doesn’t stop there… Continue reading “Rocky Romero of NJPW Just Dropped An Album. Say What?!?”
