Apple has sent out invitations to members of the press and other guests for a March 25 “special event,” featuring the words “it’s show time.” That’s interesting because Apple used the same tagline back in 2006 (hey kids, remember 2006?) for an event that led to the unveiling of the Apple TV device. The language and references points to a possible announcement of the company’s long-rumored streaming TV service that might be the event’s main focused.

There are other factors that point to the unveiling of a streaming service. Apple has been going out to recruit Hollywood writers and talent — taking advantage of their growing Culver City, Calif., offices in the Los Angeles area — to create family-friendly content. They have also acquired a multitude of content from other established entertainers: i.e., a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stores, a deal with Oprah Winfrey, a new film from Damien Chazelle (the Oscar-winning director of La La Land), a new series by Roland D. Moore (who showran Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ), and a series based on Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series of stories.
The March 25th event will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater, located at Apple’s new campus in Silicon Valley. The theater was first publicly used back in September 2017 when the company announced the iPhone X and other products. The upcoming Apple event will be livestreamed, set to start at 10am PDT/1pm EDT.
