“The Game Console” is THE Video Game Book for Gamers Who Stare at Consoles…

…not TOO MUCH unlike the Men Who Stare At Goats. Anyways, Evan Amos wasn’t happy with the lackluster image quality of gaming console Wikipedia, so he started taking and sharing pictures of his own consoles. This venture of passion would lead to Amos to create The Game Console: A Photographic History from Atari To Xbox. Amos’ book, now available for purchase from physical and digital bookstores, is a wonderful hardbound tome consisting of 250 pages of video game systems from the first generation (the Magnavox Odyssey, Pong consoles, etc.) all the was through to the current, eighth generation of game consoles.

My Favorite Home Console, The Sony PlayStation

The Game Console not only feature the exteriors of the gaming hardware discussed within it, but several of the book’s entries include close-ups of consoles, providing the readers a good view of the innards of the piece of hardware. While Amos’ book isn’t a complete, encyclopedic, compendium of video gaming history, but it does the job as serving as a visual history of the the hardware behind one of our favorite hobbies/past-times…
