Except that as-of posting this, the event will not be airing on the WWE Network. Le sigh…
Anyway, this coming Saturday (November 25th), WWE will present ‘Starrcade,’ live from Greensboro, NC, deep in the heart of NWA/WCW/Jim Crockett territory, and, yes, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair will make an appearance at the show (because Greensboro — and North Carolina, by extension — is Ric Flair country). Not stopping there, WWE aims to help make the show as much as a throwback as it possibly can — like NOT broadcasting it live to a larger audience; yes, I AM bitter — by feature an appearance by the limousine-riding, jet-flying, kiss-stealing, wheeling-dealing, son-of-a-gun himself, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair.
The old-school motif doesn’t just stop there. One of the featured matches on the card the old-school “No Flips, Just Fists” Dash Wilder of The Revival going up against Dustin Rhodes. That’s right, not Goldust; Dustin “The Natural” Rhodes. In addition, North Carolina’s own Matt & Jeff Hardy will appear with a touch of that Crockett goodness, as WCW/NWA legends Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express will be in tow, as well.
Here’s the current card for that show, headlined by TWO steel cage championship matches, just like all good Starrcades should be:
*WWE Championship Steel Cage Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Jinder Mahal
*Smackdown Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Natalya
*Smackdown Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match: The Usos (c) vs. The New Day vs. Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
*United States Championship Match: Baron Corbin (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
*Grudge Match: Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
*Dash Wilder vs. Dustin Rhodes
I was there. It was the best house show I’ve been to in years. It was also my first time seeing a cade match live. The roof came off the place when Flair came out for a promo. It was also cool to see Arn, Steamboat, Rock-n-Rolls and Dustin w/o the Goldust gimmick.
