While the solar industry is currently doing really well in the US, the White House is aiming to broaden people’s access to solar energy even more. The Obama Administration has launched a new initiative aimed at giving more people access to solar energy, which should result in creating more jobs in the solar industry. First, the government hopes to install 300 megawatts of solar and other varied types of renewable energy in areas with federally subsidized housing. There is currently a number of organizations in over 20 states that are to create 260 solar projects to assist low-income families.
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will offer technical assistance to communities to ease the process, and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) will make it simpler to borrow money. The government has also established partnerships with companies and organizations to create more job opportunities For example, AmeriCorps will train around 40 members to be deployed to help retrofit homes with solar panels, and HUD and the Department of Education will increase educational opportunities to help the renewable energy sector.
