OH. HECK. YEAH!!!!! BattleBots is coming back to television this summer, as many homemade robots will battle to the death (of the electronic/mechanical equivalent of such) , just as Issac Asimov intended. It’s likely that the robots will be faster and stronger than before since the last time BattleBots was on TV was well over a decade ago. According to Deadline, ABC will air six episodes of the show this summer, and while that might not sound like a lot, I’m still very, VERY excited about it!!
One question one might have is — since it’s been over ten years — whether-or-not the amazing state that modern technology is now at would make this incarnation of BattleBots exciting as the earlier one. Popular Science points out that the original series started getting kinda boring when competitors realized that wedge-shaped robots could flip opponents on their backs (basically pulling an Eddie Gordo; shoutout to Tekken fans) to win many matches. But think about how far technology has come; we have 3D printing, self-driving cars, open hardware and software platforms and personal drones, so I can’t imagine the teams would have any trouble finding technology for an amazing new show. I CAN’T WAIT!!!
