WGN, who’s been having quite the streak with excellent original content (Salem & Manhattan FTW!), is about to bring a brand new original series into the fold early next year — roughly two months away — and this new show is ALL kinds of ridiculous and amazing at the same time. The series is called Wrestling with Death, which — according to the show’s Facebook page — is a “unique family docu-series.” Wrestling with Death will be WGN America’s first unscripted series, and will introduce the world to The Lathams, who run The Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola, Arkansas as morticians by day, and run The Mid-Southern Championship Wrestling League as professional wrestlers by night.” SOLD!
This show is essentially early-1990’s Undertaker’s gimmick and down-home independent professional wrestling? The show is brought to us by Bischoff Hervey Entertainment, run by — YOU GUESSED IT — former WCW Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff and Jason Hervey (you know, “Wayne” from The Wonder Years), and is executive-produced by Leftfield Pictures’ Brent Montgomery and David George of Pawn Stars. Wrestling with Death will be kicking off the new year with thirteen weeks of unscripted original episodes and is set to premiere Tuesday, January 13 (10:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 p.m. CT).
