Every had that moment when you KNOW you should have had a drink of water but you kept putting it off, THEN you got light-headed from dehydration? YOU TOO?!? Well, we SHOULD be very ware that we NEED to be drinking more water to stay healthy and hydrated, but as mentioned it’s a bit of a challenge. According to a 2012 study from the Center for Disease Control, only 43% of Americans drink four cups or fewer per day. Now, that’s where The Hug — now on Kickstarter –comes in, and its solution includes a sensor band that attaches to almost any water bottle to track your H2O consumption, along with a companion mobile app to reminds you to drink whenever your hydration levels are low.
Here’s a bit of science for you: dehydration decreases our mental AND physical performance, unfortunately many of us just get too wrapped up in our work, lives and daily routines, and it’s not until later we realize how little we drank during the day and how thirsty we’ve become. Essentially, The Hug is your personal hydration coach, giving you reminders to drink via push notifications to your phone and tracking and scoring your water consumption. The Hug also allows tracking your exercise regiment through connections to apps like FitBit and RunKeeper, and will adjust the alerts accordingly.
But what COMES with The Hug? You’ll get its two casings: a silicone band and plastic spring. The electronics housing, within a plastic piece, can be easily detached when you need to recharge The Hug via a micro USB charging cable. Currently, The silicone band will ship in two colors, Charcoal or White, and will come with an iOS application (hold your horses Android; Windows & Blackberry…… **shrugs shoulders**). Early Kickstarter backers can purchase The Hug for $59 and up, which will be much, MUCH cheaper than the gadget’s yet-to-be-announced final retail price.
