WWE Brawl; The Game That NEVER WAS…

I know that there are some things that Vince McMahon want people to forget: the WBF (World Bodybuilding Federation), the failed relaunch of WCW (World Championship Wrestling), the failed return of the nWo (New World Order) and the XFL (which stood for…well…TECHNICALLY nothing…).  Maybe we can chalk up another failed project to that pile.  Recently, concept art for an unreleased WWE fighting game, title WWE Brawl, depicting John Cena as a SWAT team member, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin as a thug-like Mad Max and Mr. McMahon himself in a Lex Luthor-esque mech suit. More concept pictures and a gameplay video after the break!

These concept designs, created by artist Rich Lyons, were created in the early production phase for WWE’s intended-to-be-released-in-2011 3D fighting game. Lyons’ designs are very, VERY interesting and creative, however, despite that, the game was cancelled and just didn’t happen.  Based upon the concept video (or trailer, since that’s that it seems to be), it seems that WWE Brawl would have been a Power Stone-esque type of fighting game, with the trailer showcasing up to four WWE wrestlers – oops, I’m sorry; Mr. McMahon wants me to call them “Superstars” – at one time slugging it out in an arena battle. The roster also included: Big Show, Hulk Hogan, Ted DiBiase, The Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Sheamus, Kelly Kelly, and more.
