Konami Authorizes A Free ‘Metal Gear (1987) Reboot!

Are you a huge Metal Gear fan like I am? Are ya’? ARE YA’?!? Since I’m a huge fan, I do in fact own the special edition of Metal Gear Solid 3 (called “Subsistance”) which contained updated playable versions of the original MSX Metal Gear games (Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake). But if you’re itching to get your hands on the first game for a nostalgic run, then you’d be happy with the news that a group of independent modders had Konami’s permission to reboot the very first Metal Gear game from 1987 and release it completely free to the public. Oh my goodness, IT’S ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!!

The group of modders in question go by the name “Outer Heaven” — based on the location of the first game –, and they contacted Konami before beginning work on this ambitious project, and Konami — to the group’s surprise — replied by granting them the green-light and approval to continue. Outer Heaven will be free to release the final product for 100% FREE, just as long as they don’t use any copyrighted material for marketing or promotion.  But the team isn’t stopping just there, because if you and anyone you know have ANY game design talents or knowledge of C++, contact the people at Outer Heaven via email to outerheavendev@gmail.com, and be part of the team to put this game together!
