Oh children. Nowadays you can’t go anywhere without seeing at least 10 kids playing with a touch-screen tablet and/or smartphone, and the computers that they get to grow up with have fancy and beautiful HD graphical user interfaces and high DPI computer mice. It’s interesting that more children are now becoming pretty tech savvy almost out of the womb. Wow, ’cause when I was their age I playing and learning on either a black-and-orange monochrome Brother word processor computer (with typewriter) and the Apple II at school with the ‘actually floppy’ floppy disks (but seriously, “Number Munchers” and “The Oregon Trail” were my JAM!).
This is the latest “Kids React” video from The Fine Bros, called “Kids React to Old Computers”, in which the titular brother team put an aforementioned Apple II in front of a group of children (one at a time), and asked to perform certain tasks, such as turning on the computer, entering in commands to start programs, and other things. It both made my laugh over their sheer confusion, and then cry over the fact that I am old. SORRY KIDS; NO CUT-AND-PASTE! MUAH-HA-HA-HA!!!
Some of my favorite quotes included:
1) Jayka “If you don’t have a desk, where do you put this?” – Me thinks she’s used to laptops….
2) One child on the command-prompt-driven system: “I don’t get it, and I also don’t get the 1970s.”
3) My favorite: “How did kids do homework before the Internet?” – Sorry libraries…. 😦
