Shawn Michaels Reveals About ‘The Streak’ Ending on Jim Ross’s podcast

The Ross ReportRecently, Shawn Michaels was a guest on Jim Ross’ podcast, The Ross Report, and at around the forty-minute mark he revealed in the interview that the decision to end The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak — which I may of may not have ranted and resolved already… — was made roughly four hours before last month’s WrestleMania 30 program went to air.  Michaels stated that at the end of the day, the final and absolute decision came down to WWE owner and chairman, Vince McMahon.  Ross himself stated that he “wouldn’t be surprised if the decision for The Streak to end did not happen at the eleventh hour. Or the weekend of,” with Michaels confirming that is was “four hours” before that show began.

Regarding the result of the match:

“Everybody was stunned. You know as well as I do that one person and one person alone makes that call. As much as everyone wants to think other people have some say-so in that, they don’t (laughs). I was stunned like a lot of people. I was there when it all happened. I know what happened… I make the calls around here in my house; that’s the way things go. I’m sure in Vince’s mind, he’s got a reason.”

Undertaker answered Ross’ questions regarding how many more WrestleMania match he had in him with the response of “I don’t know. I’ll let you know in a few hours.”  Ross then mentioned the list of Taker’s injuries and hurt body parts, and while Michaels agreed that Taker’s health concerns were there, he replied:

“Ultimately, it has no bearing on the outcome of the match. That’s just a decision that’s made. One person makes it. And everyone has to abide by it. The reasons for that – I don’t know. Ya know, I don’t know, you don’t know, I’m sure he does. Like Mark (Calaway) said a number of times, ‘I’ve got the worst record with that man.’ **laughs** In my personal opinion, I would have liked to have seen Taker undefeated and then retire. But, that’s not my decision to make. Other than that, I’ll reserve all my opinions to myself.”

Michaels did confirm what many wrestling fan believed, that was Taker was very “banged up afterwards,” as well as that Taker said that he would call Michaels “a few weeks” after WrestleMania to update on his health status after the match with Lesnar. However, Michaels did not reveal if that conversation has yet taken place in the interview.
