Oh Science and Technology; how you entertain me so. As well as weird-me out.
Anyway, with consumer-grade 3D printers coming the rage at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (in case you’re not into PlayStation Now, 4K/UHD televisions, and curved screens), it was bound to happen at SOME TIME. We’ve been hearing of strange 3D-printed projects since the initial popularity of 3D printing, so….what else is new. This is. For $600, you can hold a keepsake from that very special time in baby’s life in your very own hands courtesy of 4-D ultrasound technology from a company called 3D Babies. The company is offering to turn your ultrasounds into a custom, three-dimensional, life-size plastic replica of your future child. Because that’s TOTALLY NOT creepy.
3D Babies only takes on projects in which the pregnancy is at or very near full-term and come comes in a satin-lined, wooden box with that unsettling amount of facial detail on the replicant…er…replica (because I’m totally not foretelling a dystopian future here…). Do you ever ask yourself “imagine holding your baby before he or she is born” before reading this? Yeah? Well, NOT anymore, you won’t. Might as well just wait ’til the kid is born.
