E3 2013: Top Five Stories, Day 1/3

****DAY ONE****

Aloha, fellow gamers!! This is the time of year that we all look forward to on the yearly gaming calendar (next to the dates of certain game releases we are looking forward to) is the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo, also known as “E3.”  This year, the conference takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. As with CES 2013 and last year’s AIA Convention, I will be providing my personal five favorite stories made during today’s E3 festivities (and will be doing this for the rest of the convention), so here’s DAY ONE (with a bit of DAY “ZERO”) of my E3 2013 TOP FIVE STORIES!!

**Sony Takes A Dump in Microsoft’s Cereal**

After Microsoft’s very impressive E3 Press Conference — where they FOCUSED ON GAMES and showed off some interesting exclusives (Quantum Break and Ryse: Son of Rome), and revealed the Xbox One price tag of $499  — Sony had the last conference of the day, and boy, did they deliver. The PlayStation 4 hardware (box, case) was finally revealed and more games shown and announced for PS3 (Beyond: Two Souls, Rain), PS4 (DriveClub, inFAMOUS: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, FINAL FANTASY 15, KINGDOM HEARTS 3, etc.), and PS Vita (The Walking Dead, Tearaway, God of War Collection, etc.). But the gloves came off when Sony announced that unlike the Xbox One, the PS4 would have ZERO restrictions on used games and borrowed games, and would not require an online connection to play single-player/offline games.  The pseudo nail-in-the-coffin was the price: $399, $100 less than the Xbox One, then Sony dropped the mic and walked off stage a’la E3 1995.

**Electronic Arts wows with NEW Star Wars Battlefront and NEW Mirror’s Edge games**

After a 8 year absence since the last console release and three cancelled attempted sequels, EA announced that EA and DICE: Los Angeles (formerly Danger Close) is developing a new, rebooted Star Wars Battlefront game via a teaser trailer showing a first-person view of the Battle of Hoth, including a crashing Snowspeeder and the foot of an AT-AT. EA also showed some love for one of my favorite games from this generation by officially revealing the prequel Mirror’s Edge game, showcasing the origins of Faith, and will use the newer Frostbite 3 game engine.

1) The Walking Dead: 400 Days

Soon to be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace (X360), PlayStation Network (PS3, PS Vita). iOS and PC/Mac, The Walking Dead: 400 Days takes place in the aftermath of the undead outbreak with five new characters (playable in any order) as they struggle to survive the first 400 days of the apocalypse around a Georgia truck stop. Playable in any order, the five connected short stories are centered in and around a Georgia truck stop. There, players will be thrust into horrifying situations that will test their morals and control the flow of the story through their decisions and actions.  The PS Vita will be getting this, and Season One of The Walking Dead with hybrid touch controls later this year.

2) MEGA MAN is coming to Super Smash Bros. on 3DS and Wii U

The new Super Smash Bros. game is coming out for 3DS and Wii U in 2014, and a new playable character was announced: Capcom’s Blue Bomber, MEGA MAN!!!!! For years, fans of the series have been chomping at the bit for the Blue Bomber to be added as a third-party addition to the cast of this star-studded fighting game series (a’la Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Solid Snake, etc.) for as long as Nintendo’s been doing this for the SSB series.

3) Mad Catz presents, THE M.O.J.O.!

The Mad Catz M.O.J.O. Android console is “basically a supercharged smart phone with no screen that plugs into your flat screen TV to bring the living room experience to mobile gaming. M.O.J.O. is designed to interact seamlessly with [Mad Catz’] GameSmart controllers, mice, keyboards and headsets, in fact, the entire eco-system of gaming peripherals,” said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. It comes with Mad Catz’s new C.T.R.L.Wireless GamePad, and has two USB ports, an SD card slot, and HDMI out

4) Rockstar Games Releases more images from Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar Games has typically been “too cool for school” to even ATTEND the Electronics Entertainment Expo, but when they have a new project to show, they do it; not quite with a bang, but just enough to troll their fans. Today, Rockstar released some new pictures and screenshots from the upcoming game Grand Theft Auto V, featuring biplanes, helicopters on fire, jetskis, and crazy people!

5) Sooo, The Last Guardian IS still in development…OK…

The Boss at PlayStation Jack Tretton may have said earlier today that the long-awaited, long-anticipated game PlayStation fans are pining for, The Last Guardian, was on hiatus, however Sony’s head of worldwide studios, Shuhei Yoshida, said to Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo that “the game is in active development. [Lead designer Fumito] Ueda-san shared updates a few months ago. Nothing has changed. My answer is, ‘Yes, the game is in active development.’ It’s not hiatus at all. But we are not ready to reintroduce it. When we are ready, we will do that. Please wait.”.
