** channeling Ted Mosby**
Kids, back in 1994 in Munich, Germany, a match between Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) and Big Van Vader (Leon White) took place in on March 16th during the WCW European Tour. The match is often regarded as one of the most infamous matches in professional wrestling history; known for its physical violence (which was very limited in WCW at the time), and as the match in which your Uncle Mick Foley lost his right ear.
OK, back to business. This would be a follow-up match to what was regarded as one of WCW’s most brutal matches of all time, as Cactus Jack faced Vader in a Texas Deathmatch at WCW’s 1993 Halloween Havoc pay-per-view. Harley Race assisted in Vader’s victory by attacking Cactus with a cattle prod, knocking him out cold. The level of violence involved in this match lead to WCW refusing to schedule another Cactus Jack/Vader match on a pay-per-view ever again.
During the following match of note in March of 1994 in Munich, Cactus began a hangman, which is a spot (or “sequence of moves/maneuvers”) where a wrestler’s head is tangled between the top two ring ropes. The hangman is usually painful, yet safe; however the danger factor was slightly raised due to the fact that WCW’s ring ropes were not ACTUAL ropes, but rather elevator cables encased in rubber.
Without Foley’s knowledge, wrestler 2 Cold Scorpio (Charles Scaggs) had complained earlier in the show about the ropes being too loose. As a result, the ring crew tightened the ropes to their maximum. During the hangman spot, Foley struggled to pull his head out, and resulted in tearing off two-thirds of his right ear. Foley would later undergo surgery later that day to reattach the remaining cartilage from his ear to his head; this was done so that a total ear reconstruction could be performed at a later time.
I would how Luchador Ted would have done in this match…..
