Augmented Reality Contact Lenses Brings Data/Info to Your Eyes! OMG, THE FUTURE!

Innovega’s DARPA-Desired AR Contact Lenses

It now appears that those on-screen heads-up displays from some of my favorite video games are starting to actually become a reality to our soldiers.  Washington-based company Innovega is currently developing plans for new military technology that give contact lenses the ability to display information next to almost anything a soldier sees.

The Rock vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan, WrestleMania X8 (2002)

This Sunday in Miami, The Rock and John Cena will face off at WrestleMania XXVIII (28); a match that was over one year in the making (reminiscent of old 70′s & 80′s storylines), and is being dubbed and promoted as an Icon vs. Icon-style of match given both stars’ pop culture popularity.  However, this isn’t The Rock’s first time being promoted in this type of match.

Sooooo, the “Racism-Curing” Pills Are Real?

I don’t know if I should be ecstatic at the thought of the perfect, happy world that would be able to eliminate all types of hatred and negativity, or frightened at the notion of a medical drug affecting the brain so much to cause such a result.  Hmmmm, what to think; what to think…

NYC’s “Chinatown Fair” Arcade Has Some Quarters Left…

I know it looks like it's closing, but they're probably not!

Filmmaker Kurt Vincent was shooting some videos around the location of the now-defunct Chinatown Fair arcade this past week for his movie about the downfall of said mainstay video arcade in New York City (called “Arcade: The Last Night of Chinatown Fair”), when he stumbled-upon something interesting…

Here Lies The Printed Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1768 – 2010…

Vaya con Dios. Britannica Print is dead. Long live Britannica Online...

This can be categorized as news that almost everyone saw coming from miles away.  The news was made official last Tuesday, March 13th, as Jorge Cauz (the president of the Chicago-based Encyclopaedia Britannica Inc.) announced that the world-famous Encyclopaedia Britannica would be going out of print and concentrate solely on its online/digital offerings at Britannica Online.

From Shipping Containers to Starbucks Drive-Through, A Story of Evolution…

For those keeping track, this is not the first blog I’ve covered about the re-purposing of shipping container into buildings.  As I said then, “this presents a possible solution to repurposing the number of discarded shipping containers into homes in developing countries, it also provides a solution for first-time home buyers who are looking are trying to save as much money as possible.”  Apparently, many companies/corporations are starting to use this method for their places of business as well.

My 27th Year Celebrated Today

How do you celebrate your own birthday on a blog?  In the real world (or in real life, or IRL), there are cards, drinks, cakes, singing, laughing, and well-wishes from your friends and family (by the way, BIG THANKS to my friends and family for the birthday wishes).  I also realize that I have already covered much of my childhood, adolescence, teenage years, college days, and professional experience in the 110+ blog entries I’ve made.   I guess rather than find another way to wedge other personal stories and details into yet another blog entry, I’d do this:

PICTURES OF CAKES AND  A SONG!!

Mario Gets a Portal Gun In This Fan-Made Game

image

I love the Super Mario series; maybe not as much as Sonic, but the games are very enjoyable. Like most gamers my age who were born in the mid-1980′s, the Mario series have stuck with us for its accessibility and excellent platforming mechanic. I also enjoy the ground-breaking first-person puzzle game Portal; I recall purchasing The Orange Box in 2007 and being excited to play Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, HL2; Episode 2, & Team Fortress 2, and asking myself “what the heck is ‘Portal’?” As of last week, much like how peanut butter & jelly were mixed to create something awesome, the original Super Mario Bros. game and Portal’s concept have been crossed-over.

Forget Remembering Passwords! Make A USB Password Dongle to do it FOR YOU!!

Oh passwords, passwords, passwords; so necessary to protect your information and accounts online, but very often it just means that there are so many passwords to remember; depending on how many online services you use and how diligent your are in properly securing your online information.  After it was revealed a few weeks ago that the most common password in the nation was “password1″ — seriously, I’m NOT kidding — it’s a wonder why your account has not been phished or hacked by now if you use that or other simple/terrible/lazy/unsafe passwords.  For the best security, it is wise and recommended  for passwords to be complex (using letters, numbers AND symbols) and be changed every 8-16 months.  Still, I understand that the new issues would be having to remember ANOTHER password.  But, don’t fret…

I Wouldn’t ‘leggo’ of this LEGO Sydney Opera House set!

Behold the LEGO model of the Opera House...

I love, love, LOVE LEGOs!  I remember receiving my first 3 LEGO sets when I was 5 years old (just before I started Kindergarten) and having a blast building and playing with them.  As the years went on, I got more LEGO sets, and built several custom buildings for my own enjoyment.  Along with my interest in drawing, LEGOs were very inspirational to my pursuit of architecture in college and graduate school.

Team USA’s Basketball Jerseys Are Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles; Our Recyclable Litter at Work.

image

Nike has announced the the 2012 iteration of Team USA’s basketball jerseys for the Olympic Games in London would be made of 96% recycled polyester, making them the lightest jerseys Nike ever made. Additionally, the shorts will be 100% recycled polyester and only weight 5 ounces. Nike verifies that each jersey is made from 22 recycled plastic bottles to create the breathable polyester fabric the jerseys are made of. Pretty snazzy-looking, don’t you think? It may be more successful than the NBA experiment with the synthetic basketball.
