Reported earlier last week by owner IDG, starting today, December 4th, 2011, long-running gaming magazine GamePro will be shutting down their website and ceasing operations completely. Both the magazine and website have been a mainstay in the gaming community since the early 1990s. I remember getting my first issue of GamePro magazine all the way back in 1992 (I was 7 years old) from Blockbuster Video with Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, and Dr. Robotnik on the cover (there was even a story about the launch of GamePro TV). GamePro was also one of the first gaming publications to make the leap to the world wide web (or the “internet”) back in 1996.
As of lately, the magazine has had some troubles with their circulation, resulting in switching from a monthly publish cycle to quarterly (every 3 months). As a result of the closure, many of GamePro’s existing editors will change the location of their console coverage, news and reviews to their sister website, PC Magazine, and the domain “www.gamepro.com” will soon re-direct to PC Magazine’s website. As a long time reader of both the magazine and website, my blessings and best wishes go out to anyone who has been affected by GamePro’s closure.

Google I/O is a huge annual industry conference held by the king of search engines. Typically they unveil mind-blowing new products -- Android devices, Google Glass and others -- and have many technical sessions of interest to programmers who work with Android, e-commerce, Google Maps, advanced web development, and much more. There are usually a few less technical topics as well.
